Curriculum vitae

Orava Gallery was founded in 1965 as a state contribution organization which performs a complex professional gallery activity. In intentionally and systematically collects, professionally works up, protects documents, opens to public and educationally utilizes works of all disciplines of the creative art of home and foreign origin of each historical period as well as the contemporary one.

— In 1971 the gallery opened to public permanent expositions on Slanica Island of Art in the middle of Orava Lake.

— In 1979 it opened permanent exposition — Gallery of Mária Medvecká in Tvrdošín.

— For the year 1983 the Orava gallery obtained Price of the Ministry of culture for longlasting good results in the presentation of art.

— In 1986   1994 the residence of the Orava gallery   the County Hall   was being reconstructed.

— In 1995 the gallery opened to public permanent expositions of art of the 15th — 20th century from its own collection funds in the County Hall on the area of 1.200 m 2 they are photographically presented in the collection of postcards.

— In 1996 the Orava Gallery obtained the annual price of the magazin "Pamiatky a múzeá" in the category "Expositions" and the creative team obtained the reward of the price of Martin Benka for the year 1995.

— Nowadays the Orava gallery runs 4 historical buildings in the districts Dolný Kubín, Námestovo, Tvrdošín.

— As the only gallery in the Slovakia, it possesses its own ship for transport of visitors to the expositions of Traditional folk art on Slanica Island of Art.

— The collection funds of the Orava gallery is represented by 8 art disciplines with the amount nearly 8 000 pieces of art works.

— In the new reconstructed spaces the Orava gallery yearly organizes 10 — 12 temporary expositions of Slovak and foreign creative art.

— All expositions of the Orava gallery are visited by 50.000 visitors every year.
